YOOtheme hack days

What do you do, if you want to clear your head and do some profound work? You pack your computers, Xbox and some warm socks and travel to a remote island in the Baltic Sea for a couple of hack days. Well, at least that's what we did last month. In the midst of snowy nothingness we put up our gear and got shoulder-deep in working on some pretty great stuff for you.

So you may be wondering what we got up our sleeves this year? Here we go... Its been two years since we released the Warp 6 framework and we are happy to announce that Warp 7 is already in the making and scheduled to be released this summer. We are putting a lot of effort into it to make it the next state of the art theme framework. We are planning a new major Widgetkit 2 release as well as new ZOO releases later this year. All built on the latest web technologies including some great improvements. We are also working on some new projects, which we are really excited about. So stay tuned!

We will have more news and details soon, so keep checking back!

That's great news guys, especially about Zoo, I'm sure many people would say over-due, but it is very much welcomed to know you are working on this.

Have you been taking feature requests into consideration (for Zoo) from the support/forum, or is there somewhere else that we should post suggestions?

Cheers again guys, blog posts like this go a long way in settling fears about Zoo being abandoned.

I'd echo that comment. Glad to know Zoo is not abandoned, and wonder where what features are high on your list there.

I'm sure the Yoo Theme customer relationship manager has been making sure our voice has been heard. It wouldn't make any sense not to - I mean what sort of organisation doesn't listen to it' s customers.

    This is good news.

For the Widgetkit I really hope you can implement it more with Joomla!s core features. Clickable titles, show article header title, choose only featured articles, the new tagging feature and so on.

And I really hope you could get better answering support questions. I have several unanswered

I hope Widgetkit slideshow/slideset will allow to choose articles by ID, images from media gallery. Also custom title, custom introtext etc.
That is a more automatic rather than manual.
Looking forward to hearing more clues!

How about coming up with a more flexible module/widget positions layout. You've been using the same forced logo/menu/search position for years. How about just full width positions (like Rocket) that gives us better flexibility in creating our page layouts.

Warp 6 already give you all the tools to do this easily when you build a theme. For our own releases we like our position layout more than the one you mentioned...

Obviously Sascha, you would like your own product. That being said, I fail to see where Warp 6/7 gives me the flexibility to just have undefined or positions that are not forced upon me like your long time logo/menu/search positions.

We, the end users, are not novices in customization or don't have much time for this. Therefore we expect much more injected features so that we can concentrate on the content rather than customization.

I just think it is completely disrespectful and shortsighted to think that the entire world of YOO customers is being forced into your idea of inflexibility with the layouts. I fail to understand why you just cant make grid rows of 6 instead of forcing us (unless we want to hack the code) to always be stuck with logo/menu/search position in the same row. The product is great (as evidenced by how many years I've been with YOO) but I sure do wish you guys would loosen up a bit and see a broader view in your structure.

Hope you had fun on your trip :)

One thing I would like to see is that Zoo finaly becomes what it should have been some time ago...a flexible responsive framework where I dont have to check other websites (zoolanders.com) to have some features that IMO really should be standard in Zoo. Multilanguage and advanced search should be the first to implement IMO.

Other than that...will just have to wait to see what you guys and gals can come up with :)

I been with you since you started and I can say hands down Youtheme is flat out the best structured system there is. I have tried rocket themes 1 time. I built the whole website and then tested it and it loaded so slow I about cried. Oh it looked good but the engine behind it was a slow old mule. Keep up the great work. You will not find a faster running engine that these folks make for what it delivers. The thought they put into most things is great and you ain't going to please everyone. But I love how you focus on making it the fastest light weight templates(yet good looking) there is to be found.

I have spent the last few days trying to impliment a Multi Column Menu. So inless one of the things that is going to be coming out is a Menu that will support nested categories several layers deep. One of the things at least I would appreciate the most is to allow us a way so we can switch out the Yoothemes Menu for one that will at least support this.

I have over 70 menu items and need them to be around 5 levels deep in places. Yoo cant do it though so I am stuck having to do things the hard way.

Not saying you don't make some great stuff, you do!

Some times the best thing you can do is facilitate that process and to gracefully step aside and allow work to continue without increasing the amount of work to move forward.

Be really really nice to have a way to turn off the Yoo menu so we could load in a replacement without having to touch code to do so. Similar to what you have for the Warp Branding.
