Yootheme Pro : Feelings, bugs and questions ...

Hi,
here we are a webagency.

Developpers settings
With Warp 7 we had a very nice way to customize a template with the possibility to make our own style folder and use theme.config.php and our own css and js files.
With Pro i still don't undertsand how we can do this efficiently.

I tried to use custom css in theme settings > custom codes but the css added there is modified and added at end of theme.css file .
So no way to modify it by an editor or IDE ... Really not the way to work fast.
You should at min allow to use a custom.css file (loaded after theme.css) where we can add our own rules.
MODIFIED : File custom.css run ok. But it is not used in Builder so if we work with this file then modifications done in builder become hard to see.
Also the fact that theme.css file is automatically minified prevent to work in it with an editor.
Not really developpers friendly.

Then there is also some cache problems.

  • If i add new image to a folder and try to pick this image in page builder it don't appear in image picker. I have to enter a subfolder then come back to parent level to see my image appear and it work only in chrome and not everytime ... how to work like this ?
    Finally i type image filename directly in field ...

  • Another thing : Never try to use Website and Page builder at the same time in 2 tabs or 2 browsers ... there is a cache confusion and you lost your work.

  • other problem : Just a few minutes ago i added some css custom code to test and now when i come back i have an error "invalid CSRF token".

Feedback after 5 hours
I think Pro is a nice tool but as usual you don't make the tool usable to end customers and developpers at the same time.
Nothing is really done for developpers and in the same time Page builder is not very simple for end customers (and also for us web agency).
So ok it's much more better than warp7 customizer and add lot of possibilities.

But it's still young as an 10 years child. As usual you've launched it too soon.
1.6 version should be a beta 6 and you should have take care of all beta testers feedback.

Just an example : if i edit an element Overlay in Page builder tabs are called "content", "basics", "advanced" and "general" (translated from french version).
Fot the 3 last i can't understand what settings are in it, it could be "Styles", "Effects" and "Responsive" ...
Lot of things are like this.

To finish some questions and missing things in page builder :

1- About grid element : There is no option (like in widgetkit 2) to use link on the entire panel so if we had a link in a grid article the only way to display link is to use a button ... not very modern.

2 - About menu : If we use page builder to make a page with lot of section and want menu choices to scroll to sections, how to do that ?

3 - About slideshow (overlay in this case) : how to make image take 100% width of screen (no white background at right and left) ? Is it an image resolution problem ?

Regards.

  1. There is a custom.css file like in warp7 themes. (in case it is not there you can create one and place it into the css folder. It will load automatically.) Also accessible in the backend.
  2. Did you tried a different browser? (Also there is a cache problem in Joomla 3.7 with the page cache plugin.)
  3. I save my feelings for my girlfriend :-)
  4. Grid, use Link Image /card.
  5. Just add an external url menu item and insert the url like #to-my-section. (Basic Joomla actually)
  6. Set section width to none. (Even there is no slideshow in YOOtheme except you use a widget or other third party extension.)

To avoid misunderstandings, I am not a YOOtheme member :-)

I'm agree with you except that Warp 7 Templates have stopped for 8 months and Pro is out for the same time ... and as you say still a beta.

8 months is long ...
It should clearly be announced and assumed as a beta (use it and test it on your own time and at your own risk).

Paying to be betatester is not a good feeling (i will not talk about that to my girlfriend that don't care about web business)...

I am more pragmatic. Even the CMS itself has boundaries. If you know them you can deal with them or look for a different solution. UIkit 3 is still beta and it's nice to see it developing. I would advice installing a local version and play around like I do on my playground site. You can do also a lot of things which are not directly accessible by the builder like here the mobile sticky menu. Use a smaller browser window or smartphone! No extension used. Only UIkit 3 options.

You are right, it came out to early. But I already published several sites for clients from the beginning. But for me it's easy to find workarounds. I understand for some it's frustrating. How ever, I advice install a local playground and checkout the limits. Soon there will be Lightbox and slideshow integrated. Not sure if you follow this post.

Strange my last comment has dissapeared ...
Yes i follow the post you mention.
And yes we regularly find workarounds but for us it's a production tool so we need something efficient and finished ...

About your advices :
4. Yes it's work (didn't saw this option yesterday, perhaps a cache problem or i missed it).
5. Yes i was thinking about that but looking forward something with bit of jquery effect.
6. It don't work and really depend on image size. I fallback to WK2 for this one.

Thanks.

I looked at your site.
What kind of element are you using ? Perhaps your image is a section background, no ?

First & second background image, third (sun glasses) image element. Last element text element containing iframe. (forced to enlarge).

Finally as i have only one slide i made the following :

Section background image set to cover with none setting for max width and height.
Then in section an overlay element with blank image and this custom css :

.el-container {
    width:100%;
    height: 550px;
}
.uk-overlay {
    padding:30px;
    width:550px;
    bottom:50px;
}
@media(max-width:480px) {
    .el-container {
        height: 395px;
    }
    .uk-overlay{
        max-width:88%;
        padding:15px;
        bottom:0px;
        left:0;
        right:0;
    }
    .el-content{
        font-size:16px;
        color:#000;
        font-weight:500;
    }
}
