I've tested the module Builder on two separate websites, and found it only works in the top and bottom positions, it doesn't work in the sidebar position

@michael.

thank you. but i don´t understand. i want to generate new positions. not in the website builder. i need this for modules. it have been said, that in 1.7 it is possible, to creat new positions: not only top (like now), but top-a, top-b, top-c etc. the website builder is very good for small pages. but i work with pages that have thousands of static contents, k2 or zoo, virtuemart and a lot of other components. it is fine, that i can do building a page with the website builder, but i´m not interested in. we had a meeting of about 50 joomla developers, and everyone said the same: the builder is very very good, but we need all the possibility to work with the joomla core. and module positions...

i build about 4 pages with the pro system, but i had to get back to old warp system, because clients didn´t come clear with the builder.

sasha told in the changelog, that it will be possible, to generate module positions. module positions are top-a, -b, -c and so on. like in the old templates. so i decided to renew my subscribtion. where can i generate them?

Was so hard? it's still hard!

For me at least, the taxonomy is ambiguous and drilling down to pertinent settings is a 'needle in a haystack' problem.
The only way I can determine the purpose of some settings is to edit them and draw conclusions from the results. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time getting to grips with YTP but it still feels like a slippery eel, wriggling out of my control.

Onwards and upwards...

I should add: maybe I was a bit harsh - things did become much easier once I understood the section>container>grid structure as manifested in YTP. .

Any chance of a quick "here's the best way to use the new module builder"??
I know some info will be released via the blog on Tuesday, but in the meantime a bullet point workflow would be nice to know.
I'm intending to do a lot of work over the weekend....

From what I can gather, it's a good improvement. It doesnt allow the user to create module positions, which is actually what most people wanted as far as I can tell, but maybe that will come at some point. I'm guessing that might be complex to achieve and possibly quite vulnerable to conflicts.

I note that YT added a comment to a feature request from 2 Nov 2016 saying the request has been delivered with YTP 1.7, but it hasnt been delivered in the context of that request, which asked for more module positions (presumably either within the released template structure or via a function allowing the user to create new module positions).

When will it be possible in "Yootheme Pro": to create and manage Joomla Posts Overview Pages and Jommla Post Page or blogs?

1

Avatar david.jones.35 answered

To reiterate what jabberwocky said yesterday:

YOOtheme Pro is fantastic for building my static pages. I'm really enjoying using the Builder - except when I want to build Blog pages and posts.

I read an article on the BBC website - see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/emmanuel_macron ...

I thought "Wow! I could build that page layout easily with YOOtheme Pro. Great for Blog posts!"

Unfortunately, I can't build a Blog page with the Builder and have the overview appear in a Blog Overview page. Sad. Very sad!

Building Blog posts using Builder would also partly remove the need for a sidebar module on the post page - I'd simply format the page to 2/3:1/3 or 3/4:1/4 and add the sidebar content via Builder too... (In many cases)

Any thoughts on extending this awesome capability?

Thanks! :-)

PS. Great job on everything else in YOOtheme Pro... :-)

UPDATE

Thanks for positive feedback, Sacha.

Can we have this on the priority todo list, please? ;-)

Image Optimization

Your image optimization saves images at same width and height in pixel but in bigger size (kb) - this is quite odd - if it would resize width and height to a larger image I would understand the behaviour but in this case it makes no sense (to me) - I also asked this question here

  1. I optimize an image and save it in Photoshop at 718 px x 398 px at 78KB
  2. I upload it to the image folder - it uploads it at same size (see screenshot)
  3. When I load the page it saves it in the Cache folder at 718 x 398 pixel (same as I uploaded) BUT at 99KB whic is about 25 % bigger than the one I uploaded (see screenshot) - so this slows down the speed of the site... and I have no clue what's the reason for that.

Hi Marceire,
I agree that YTP can be confusing initially, but from your query it seems you havent examined the various documents and videos which show why YTP was designed in a certain way. Learning more about YTP will answer your queries. If you just follow your nose based on your Joomla experience (without doing the tutorials and doc reading), you'll get frustrated and lost. Much better to spend a bit of study time to ensure you at least understand the structural details.
I know this from my own experience. After lots of frustration, going back and learning all I could about YTP and UIKit really made the difference.

YTP has a ways to go, but I'm starting to love using it.Embrace the learning curve, I reckon.

@hamlin-gordon You should add your own content. Mostly that's the idea of an CMS but you can also select an Layout from Library if it makes sense for you.

As hamlin.gordon said, the module Builder doesn't work in the sidebar position

"here's the best way to use the new module builder" is my demand too.

When will the whole Yootheme Pro documentation area will be updatet? I need much more information what is possible with yootheme Pro and how we achieve it. The change from warp 7 was so hard and its difficult to get to every possibility just with testing it out myself?

Thanks Sascha, i'm looking forward for tuesday to learn more :-)

@sascha and @hamlin.gordon concerning the sidebar issue:

Maybe it's possible to provide a slim module builder mode for the sidebar position?

As sascha mentioned here it's never, ever possible to have a sidebar beside a section. According to this the module builder would mess up the whole layout if it placed a section into a section. But maybe there is a possibility to reduce the module builder to rows and elements just for the sidebar position?

Anyway I feel like the module builder is a great improvement.

Thank YOO!

Hello,

in the Roadmap you said to danny.malouin from Nov 1, 2016 (15 Votes) that the issue could be solved with Module Builder.
But it doesn't. With your old Templates it was possible to add a left and right sidebar to for example a blog post. Now it isn't. Some Pages are not created with the Page Builder. And why there are Modul positions when the Page Builder blocks the sidebar at all?
Because of that you have to recreate the whole site if you decide to show the sidebar on this one. Bevor you could just open a modul change the settings and save it.

Don't understand your vision here... I would say use the Joomla and Wordpress functions and don't work around them...

Builder only supported on "top" and "bottom"

That's a pity. Why shouldn't we use it in toolbar position also?
It would be nice to implement a countdown, icon or whatever with the builder in that module position.
Now I have to use code instead to achieve the same.
