Nic and Em

Love is in the air this June and the first summer breeze brings along Nic & Em, our newest release. This wedding themed template stands out with its vertically split layout, new module/widget positions, a bunch of handy features and four custom Widgetkit plugins! It provides the perfect base for couples to plan their wedding and present photos and memories afterwards. But its versatility and different styles make Nic & Em great for any event website, portfolio or other content.

Aside position

Nic & Em theme comes with the additional Aside position. That's what forms the distinguishing two column layout of this theme. Modules/widgets you publish here will be displayed on the left side of the screen, while the remaining content stays on the right. On resolutions below 1366px it will automatically move to a teaser position at the top of the browser to save valuable space.

Nic and Em Aside Responsive

The Aside position has a couple of custom settings that you can adjust in the Warp administration. Its width can vary between 25% and 50% and it can be positioned on the left or right side of the content. Set a background color, image and an overlay and combine these with different blend modes, opacity settings and a contrast color option, so that typographic elements look good on dark backgrounds. The entire appearance is up to you.

Nic and Em Aside

An article's title and meta data will also be rendered in the Aside position, if the option is enabled. In single view, the featured image of each blog item will automatically appear there.

Nic and Em Blog

A number of block appearance settings are also available for the other positions. You can set a background color, image, blend modes and opacity with a contrast option. The content of each block can have different paddings, widths, full viewport height and if this isn't enough, you can also add your own class.

Widgetkit

Nic & Em uses Widgetkit 2 to render some of its content. In addition to the large number of default widget plugins, this theme provides a custom Grid Stack, two special Slideshows and an Event widget.

Grid Stack

The custom Grid Stack widget comes with the additional option to set a watermark image for each item. Just type in your text in the Watermark field of your widget's content administration and it will be displayed discreetly in the background of your item as a nice typographical detail. All default Grid Stack settings are still available in this renderer.

Nic and Em Grid Stack

Slideshow Nav

Nic & Em theme comes with two custom Slideshows. The first one features a tabbed navigation that is placed above the Slideshow. The title of each item is used to switch through the content. Title and content are rendered inside a panel that overlays the media, while a custom style with an animated underline on hover can be applied to the link.

Nic and Em Slideshow Nav

Slideshow

The second Slideshow comes with a custom slidenav that can be positioned at the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right of the Slideshow. A counter displays the number of items as well as the active item. The regular Slideshow features are available as well.

Nic and Em Slideshow

Event

The Event widget is perfect to create a list of events, which can be filtered by date. You can enter a date and time and even a location in the Content tab of the widget administration. The event location will then be displayed in a link that opens up a map in the same tab or optionally inside a new one.

Nic and Em Event

Additions

Apart from these major features Nic & Em theme comes with lots of helpers and gimmicks that make this one special.

Pageloader

The additional Pageloader module/widget position allows you to create custom markup that will then be displayed on any page that it is published on, while the site is in the process of loading.

Nic and Em Pageloader

Overlay Search

Another gimmick is the fullscreen search of this theme. Instead of the usual input, this will open an overlay with a large search field, when you click the magnifier icon.

Nic and Em Overlay Search

Nic & Em theme comes with 6 style presets to show you the possibilities that it offers. A more detailed overview of the theme's features and a full list of available custom classes can be found on the Theme page. An FAQ will soon be available and you can find answers to questions that are not addressed there in our support area.

Post to be the "About us" and "Our wedding" in 2 lines beneath?
I guess not. In Safari 9.1.1 OS X.

I hate the fact the YooTheme never appear to provide support or ability to provide a contact page (widget or other).

It's the most fundamental component of a website - yet you constantly ignore the requirement.

I love how you style your themes don't get me wrong...

HOWEVER it is always 'style over substance'.

When are you going to learn that the most fundamental of requirements in any customising a theme or framework requires YOO to serve up a contact component that is easily accessible / customised?

    Bad practice.

Maybe it better to use third party module/component for contact? And use Joomla standart article to create contact page? And use on this page UiKit features for layout? And use the Load Module button to load necessary modules such as contact form?

RU a paid advocate of YOOTHEME? Do you speak on their behalf?

The argument is simple. The Deal is simple.

It is not "better" to use a third party module / component.

We [WEB DEVELOPERS] face the fact of --- RAPID DEVELOPMENT & RAPID DEPLOYMENT!!!!

It is a fundamental that any website (be it a template or other) has a CONTACT "component" that is useful.

YOOTHEME has a history of ignoring this.

GET IT RIGHT YOOTHEME! Provide an an out-of-the-box widget or other "CONTACT" solution so I don't have to hard-code.

To be able to facilitate a "CONTACT" component in a web site (now a days) is fundamental.

I'm sick and tired of having to hand code it myself.

I'm not paid or free advocate. I'm a regular user and I use Yootheme's products since 2006. On my experience they they are making the best products. Not an ideal but the BEST for Joomla (if you compare speed, seo and functionality). And I never used standard contact form in Joomla. Depends on task I use Chronocontact Forms, PerfectAjaxContactForm or FoxContact. And one more thing - you can simply override standart contact in /template/HTML/com_contact

In my opinion, there are several thousand perfectly suitable Wordpress and Joomla plugins both paid and free that perform this function already. Why would Yootheme who are in the business of providing extremely useful frontend tools and themes delve into this market?

" RU a paid advocate of YOOTHEME? Do you speak on their behalf?" --> No hence starting with "In my opinion". I am just a long time user of their products on multiple platforms. If you are not interested in my opinion then that is your prerogative. I do not really understand why you are so combative when I was not being argumentative in anyway.

"It is not "better" to use a third party module / component." --> I never said it was "better". I was just pointing out a possible reason as to why Yootheme would not be interested in developing such a widget.

Take for example Typeform. Not only is it free and easy to use, responsive, and just plain gorgeous... You can integrate the data it captures with just about anything using Zapier. They even go so far as to give you widgetized code or wordpress and joomla plugins to integrate the contact form easily into your website.

If you would like examples of easy to implement options that capture leads/data like a good contact form I could be of assistance but only if you were interested in my opinion...

The argument is simple (full stop).

YOO THEME consider and then provide a simple out-of-the-box solution to a contact page and widget (to be able to be placed anywhere).

            That's simple!

"Style" is great! But without functionality it's useless.

In this I'm with njsloan... not so much in that combative way, but a contact widget or pluggin it's something I always thought would be nice to be already integrated with a yootheme.

They even have a couple of themes with a contact form outside the contact page which are not functional. Other developers, if they show you something in a theme, it's actually something that works. I can understand the DEMO content, but when they place DEMO functions, that's just not so good.

Of course, you can always use a third party component, but if it were developed and integrated already with the theme, it would be great.

        Aparth from that, yootheme rocks.

I know it is an other extension, but RSFORM PRO (maybe the free version too but I'm not sure) is compatible with UIKIT and yootheme, you can choose UiKit as a theme of your form and it adds all the uk-xxx classes.

A form plugin/component/module/widget is a complex thing, to create and to maintain. I think yootheme just prefere to focus on templates for now. Even for pagekit they didn't make a form extension themselves.
