Wish list for YOOtheme Pro

Hello everyone,

YOOtheme Pro has been a around for some months now. The release was a milestone and a tremendous achievement for us. We are continuously working on it, pushing out updates very frequently - Changelog. Thanks a lot for your feedback so far! Many suggestions have already been implemented and we will continue to take your thoughts into account.

Just a note: YOOtheme Pro is a completely new theme framework and one of the biggest releases in our history. The entire framework is built from ground up. Everything is modernized, improved, rethought. But there is more, it's also built on the completely revised front-end framework UIkit 3. What does all this mean? It's in its early stages with a core feature set, many things are new and you need to get to know them and it comes with breaking changes (like UIkit 3).

Now we love to hear what you think should be the priority for the next steps. Which end-user features are missing? What's still on your wish list from a developer point of view? Please, let us know. Thank you!

PS: We would like to keep this a feature request list. Please try to keep your suggestions short and on point.

To add my voice to the discussion: A WYSIWYG editor is essential for pro as a priority.
The builder is brilliant, but I can't expect my clients to learn code just to add a line break???
Please guys put this at the top of the dev list!

WYSIWYG editor for text areas. It is really a pain to code by hand "<p><br><strong><ul>" etc for every piece of text. I'm working on a site and take several times longer to edit text than with Warp7.
Otherwise ... bravo for the PRO. It's a pleasure to work with Yootheme Pro ... except for the lack of text editor.

Logo Sizes: Yes, I always have to resize the logo position. Clients what their logo large with no exceptions. And their logo's are always awkward. http://yootheme.com/support?q=logo+resize&order=created Shows over 50 threads withing the last couple years of people wanting to resize logo's.

Adobe Fonts: Similar to Google Fonts, a lot of us use Adobe Creative Cloud that provides access to Typekit. This would be great to use since we're already using their fonts in Photoshop & Illustrator.

Sidebar: I'm still at awe on this. My sidebar modules do not show up on pages that were built with the page builder. Bug, something I'm missing?

As I've said before YooTheme Pro MUST be worth the change for us. If it doesn't offer at least the same options, hopefully more and better, as the previous version, there's no reason to switch. Please understand, as professionals we want our jobs to be easier and go faster, not different for the sake of being mainstream or "out of the box." -my 2 cents.

Showing us a site that appears to display and use Module positions like Joomla intended is great, but please explain how we can do this so it works like Joomla intended? Meaning, when we create a module, assign it to Main-Top and only want it displayed on paged under a menu item called Services to which there are a dozen subpages, while Main-Bottom is displayed on all pages but home?

I for one (and I've read may other comments regarding this) require the Sidebar on all pages. That said with the current implementation of Pro this is not an option if we want to leverage the page builder you have forced upon us. It's been 3 months since my yearly membership has been of use to me or my clients. Very disappointed.

This is NOT Answered

UPDATE - Dec 6, 2016

Please post a video explaining how to use what I will call "traditional" module positions in a traditional way. Meaning that the demo would show us how to build a "Hero module" on the front page only, sidebar items on every page for every user, Bottom A on specific pages for specific users. All without needing to open builder.

Thank you

Right now we're back on the ugly standard joomla error pages

To add to the WYSIWYG editor discussion.

  1. Definitely necessary for prime time. It's a pain to hand code for basic content creation.
  2. But just as importantly, please use the System Editor. Many of us have invested in editors like JCE or ARK.

WISHLIST OPTION 1:

WYSIWYG Editor in text elements please. And as said, preferable the system editor, not the stripped editor as in the Widgetkit

WISHLIST OPTION 2:

Element for adding Widgetkits through the pagebuilder.

Thanks for update this Sascha.
I started building a new site in YooTheme Pro and had to switch to the Monday Theme to get it done. But after trying to learn it and understand the current limitations, these are my current needs to be able to use YooTheme Pro:

  • Module Positions that aren't overridden by YTP (like the sidebar)
  • WidgetKit 2 Features (Slideshows, Image overlay, better grid options)
  • More real-world options (Logo sizes, adobe fonts, versioning, etc.)
  • Whitelabel
  • ACL
  • Better/Faster Forum Support When We Need Help (Overall)

Also it took me a little while to grasp the way to start. An advanced video tutorial would be great to show how to build an example page on a real website! It has to be worth loosing Warp 7 + WidgetKit 2 over getting something new, plus people don't like change, this includes clients.

Thanks for all Yoo guys do.

@sasha

the module positions in the pro system is not the problem.

the problem is, if you have dynamic content and you want to place modules. than i (we..) need more... or if you have modules which should be placed on different pages. the last weeks it seems, that you understand our problem. the latest news let me doubt again...

you wrote:

"Module positions: Is top-a, top-b etc really needed? (@danny.malouin) Take a look at this example page"

the example is a static page...

what about a dynamic page? always recurring modules in the bottom? that is the main problem... i build myself top-a to top-g in the pro. perfect. but at the next update, all was gone...

you can test your own template without using the pro system to build a site. you´ve said "its optional"... without this option a sitebuilding ist very limited...

3

Avatar sascha Yootheme answered

@tobias.luger The shown example page is a dynamic blog page with modules on the top and bottom position. Not a static page. Please take a look again.

Module positions that might be handy:
1. Top, Bottom and Sidebar postiions available also on STATIC pages
2. Main top and Main bottom ( or a tutorial of how to set up these modul position with the TOP position on DYNAMIC pages)
3. Footer module positions available from the Module Manager (makes life a whole lot easier if you have a multilingual site)

Avatar swissa answered

Couple of extras now spring to mind after working with it for a while.

Whilst it appears to really help with html elements, I am missing some of the familiarity and ease of Warp 7.

  1. Would be great if you could print off the left hand window when in Builder. Should really help with wire-framing for customers without having to fill in fake text etc. A quick approach. Yes, you can do a screen shot but hard if the page is long and my chrome plugins don't do it.

  2. I've spent a fair amount of time saving sections for reuse throughout a site. Would be brilliant if I could export these and then just bring them in on another site. I know I can clone the site and re-use it but I like to start with a blank site for a customer (or one filled with Lorem Ipsum and not another customers text).

  3. I'd love to see the Menu and Footer going into Builder too (I understand they need to remain in Layout for dynamic pages) so that I can change the layout of either for an individual page. Flip menus, logo's etc and would address any language issues for ltr, local phrases used in logos etc..

  4. I still haven't discovered how I can assign individual style to an individual page. So either please let me (us!!) know how to do this or add it in. Particularly useful for shops etc where I may need differing fonts, or colours for separate categories or seasons etc..

  5. Keep up the good work. Add lots more widgetkit functionality (which we know is coming) and get the UiKit docs done. Need to update my shop software from UiKit2!

Thanks for reading.

Hi,

I would like to request a feature you can set different builder lay-outs per group.
So if a manager goes to the template builder the only option he will get is: Builder, Style.
And as super User you will get every option in the builder.

So the other groups won't mess with the settings.

Hi,

We need the Menu position Footer Menu so that we:

  1. ) Can hide menu-items with the guest access level for logged in users .
  2. ) Can show menu-items with the registered access level for logged in users .

Now we can not make a footer menu-item "login" which will hide after a user logged in and showed a new menu-item "logout". Because the sub navigation element in the websitebuilder doesn't use the Access levels.

See a example of this new feature:

This is on top of our whishlist at the moment, if possible:

1 - Modules settings in one place. Show, hide, classes, styles.
2 - Create and assign custom styles to menus.
3 - Menu settings in one place, find all menus and more easily make changes wanted.
4 - Module positions more like what we had, that works perfectly. Easier to not use or remove than to add new ones your self.

I would love to se a separation where only superadmin had access to some of the more advanced settings.

Breadcrumbs are only displayed in standard system views. Custom layouts built with page builder have no breadcrumbs. Large sites built with Yootheme Pro with a deep menu structure suffers from this lack of navigational support. Its like driving a Ferrari with only 3 wheels........

I am a new customer and have really enjoyed the flexibility of using a page builder such as yours - my wish would be for you to offer a breadcrumbs option for your custom layouts as well as standard system views.

Fingers crossed x

It would be good if there is a "client mode" in the builder so the end client could change only the text parts of the page. Now if you put a client in the customizer it could be a great mess.

Hello Sascha,

It all sounds very good and promising! I'm missing the multi language functionality in the list. Most of our business! I have tried to set fuse up as multi language site but you can only select one menu for the navbar. Please take a look at http://fuse.totowebontwikkeling.nl/index.php/nl/ You will see the Dutch menu but if you switch to English you wil get the original home page from fuse only no menu.

So if it is missing, multi language support.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your list Sascha: it is impressive.
Since Fuse (and Pro) had been launched a week ago I noted 7 upgrades.
Please, please, continue development of Pro but not in the way you have started: it is really a shame. You should have looked into these issues before launching Fuse.
Make Pro free available as a beta.
I missed frontend editing and ACL on your list.

a thing to think about is, if it is possible to generate content in the page builder and set it in the menu as separate item. like a zoo item. at the moment i had to generate a joomla content, make a joomla menu item with static content, and after that, i can work with the builder. it would be easier to create a content in the builder and builde a seperate menu item as builder item. only a thought.

Module positions!

  • top-a, b and c,
  • main-top, main-bottom,
  • bottom-a, b and c,
  • sidebar-a and b !

I can see how to add sections to do some of the horizontal concepts of modules but that does't seem to work for vertical (sidebar for example)

**** UPDATED ! UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO YT REQUEST *****
Yes, top-a to c, main-top and bottom are required. I just realized that for many sections/pages in a site, one will use dynamic content which renders the whole "content in the header layout" useless. Example; i have a forum page where I need to add a module on top of the [content] zone ? I don't have that position any more because I can't use the header to specify a module in that page only (module assignment).
So all in all, this brings me back to suggesting that all modules positions be integrated into your layouts.

Hi Sascha
I have noticed it is impossible to either disable, alter or use a different main menu or footer on selected pages. For example I may want a black menu bar on some pages & white on others. Or I would like to use different footers on different pages...or even disable the footer on viewport only pages.

Also MOST importantly, it is impossible to hide/disable sub-menu items on the main menu. I hope this can be fixed.

@tobias.luger the example here: http://www.yoo.conaculsecuiesc.ro/index.php/blog is a dymanic page, not a static one. If you look at that page you will see that is a blog page.
You do not need to use the builder. Use regular joomla module component.
On the module settings you will find on the right sight a button ”Template”
see atached printscreen here: http://prnt.sc/d2ymc7
If you need for example 3 module in a row - set width at 33%. You can create and stack as many module as you need this way. Then you can publish any module on the page you want as you allways do with joomla module component.
Excuse my bad english.

Hi,

Great framework!

Here some suggestions that would make things easier - I think:

1.) How about implementing a Clear Cache button in all sections of the Builder - when uploading images and testing them I always have to clear the cache going back to Settings/Advanced...

2.) I created a menu which works fine - but it would be really nice to have the possibility to drag and drop the menu items without leaving the website builder.

3.) When choosing colors inside the builder for fonts or background a.s.o it would be awesome if you could integrate a color picker (chrome offers that when clicking on a color in styles) - so I can pick the color I need directly on the website and do not have to open my style guide in illustrator all the time.

4.) In the text editor it would be nice if we had some kind of autocomplete function or if we could use shortcuts to add code.

Thanks

Please have a look at this list and if possible, please tell us when you think these will come to be:

(1) All Site / Layouts and their respective elements need to be multilingual.
Ex:
Site / Layout / Site logo
Site / Layout / Header nav items
Site / Layout / Footer elements
...

(2) All positions need to be rendered in builder pages (not just Joomla pages)
Ex:
Sidebar position
Top position
...

(3) Add basic layout such as Content-top and Content-Bottom. I would even go as to add a second sidebar.

(4) Add widgetkit slideshow as layout option in addition to Muted, Primary, Secondary, Image, Video.
This would prevent having to assign modules. Also, make sure the transparent header works in these (there's a manual fix for this at the moment)

(5) Add Content editing to basic text element.
This would make basic formating so much simpler ... Having to code it by hand is a lot to ask for clients.

I'm sure other clients have other requests. This is ours.

"Integration of Widgetkit in the new Pro ecosystem. We are already working on integrating all of Widgetkit's loved features into the new Pro ecosystem. From a technical perspective, the incompatibility between Widgetkit and YOOtheme Pro is grounded in Widgetkit using UIkit 2, while Pro is built with the new UIkit 3. We are currently including a new generation of technologies in all of our products. This is an important and a big step. Believe us, we are doing our best to manage the workload that is necessary to build in all the features you need and love."

Is there an ETA on this?

Hi Sascha,

at first i was a bit disappointed as i wrote in another pots. Your list above sounds hopeful and i hope that Pro becomes a good thing to build websites in the future, when it is more intuitive. Right now i will work with the old themes and widgetkit 2.

As the member "joshgilson" says above, it would be a great help for all yootheme members that now are struggling with Yootheme Pro, to have an complete video tutorial how to build a website with Yootheme Pro from A-Z with all the main possibilities and options. So we also could see the whole new workflow how to build websites with Pro, so that we finally see that Pro makes website building more easier and faster for us.

Maybe you can add this to your list for us.

YoothemePro my ideas:

Last site : www.ginkolea.com

Integrated editor (partnership?)
Integrated widgetkit (importing a server folder directly)

Grouping sections?

That this grouping be visible by a frame (choice of the color?)
That the color frame is visible in the builder as in the live site

Problem when reordering lines, if you pass a line 1/3 - 2/3 in 2/3 - 1/3, the edition no longer works

Add an anchor in the builder's boxes giving the preview in the live site.

Add an easy background to the text (color, rounded corners, opacity ...) allowing good visibility over the image (like panelbox)

I have many problems with styles, ..

when i save > does'nt work
Idea when you 'preview all ui elements' > when you click on an element, there properties apear in column.

Ahh okay that's good, but still it could be easier just to double tap and rename it directly instead of going inside the section.

Thanks :D

Hello,
It would be nice to I define / add my own text style

(at the Theme MAX, I would not only use "default"," lead" or "meta".
I would love to add my own)

Best wishes

Hello! I may be totally not finding it and this functionality is already in place, but I can't seem to assign widgets to specific pages in YooTheme Pro with Wordpress. I want a sidebar only on some pages and a few other widgets only in certain positions on certain pages. How can I do this? I looked at the videos and documentation but they are for Joomla and the Wordpress widget functionality is a bit of a mystery at this point. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks!

Please activate the plugin 'Jetpack' and use the option 'widget visibility'.

Hello there,

it would be very helpful to provide the ability to choose different font sizes for the heading elements (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5) for mobile. This is only possible now for the primary heading now.

Thanks and keep up the good work, i'm loving yootheme pro!
