Issue with Template Assignment options for Exclude / Include Child Terms on 4.4 release...
Why require the template designer to select any terms under Limit By [taxonomy name] when making broad templates for parent and child? The system knows the difference, yes?
Template assignment for Page -> "[taxonomy name] Archive",
if "Exclude child [taxonomy name]" then all parents are assigned...
Anything with ending path /[taxonomy-name]/parent-term/
if "Only include child [taxonomy name]" then all child terms are assigned...
Anything with ending path /[taxonomy-name]/parent-term/child-term
This just creates more work for the designer as content managers add terms.
For example, let's say we have a taxonomy archive for Movie Genres.
It contains parent genres like Horror, Fantasy/Sci-Fi, Drama, Action etc
For those genres you have child genres like Cosmic (horror), Slasher (horror), Time Travel (fantasy/sci-fi), Wizards and Warriors Adventure (fantasy/sci-fi), etc.
If you make one template for both parents and children, you simply select Movie Genre Archive under Page. You don't need to select any terms under Limit By Movie Genres
But if you want to take advantage of the ability to treat parent and child differently, you make two templates.
The first template you have to select ALL the parent terms, and then choose "Exclude child movie genres".
The second template you again select ALL the parent terms, but choose "Only include child movie genres".
So now you have two templates, with two layouts, which is great, but what happens when the content manager who doesn't work in Yootheme Pro decides to remove Fantasy from Sci-Fi so that it's a separate parent genre with it's own child genres.
The content manager has to contact the designer to enter the template settings of both templates just to select the "Sci-Fi" and "Fantasy" parents.
Again, why should they have to select anything? The system knows the difference between parent and child. Why force the designer to limit them?
Please let us know if we're missing something.
