Sonic Theme for YOOtheme Pro

It's March and Spring is finally coming around the corner bringing fresh colors and Sonic, our latest theme release. Sonic comes with a clean but vibrant style, that features gradients on text and UI elements as well as layered background styles. A new topic and seven custom layouts cover the needs of any event website – in this case for a conference.

Sonic Style

This theme features a minimalistic, yet colorful style. Gradients are the main player here. They decorate backgrounds, imagery, buttons, borders as well as a number of typographic details. This is combined with large but delicate headings, box shadows and some nice details, which makes for a unique style.

Style

Backgrounds

Sonic presents a new feature of YOOtheme Pro, that gives you a lot more flexibility for your background styles. Instead of choosing between a background color and an image, you can now apply both at once. This allows you to create a variable and open layout through multiple layers of backgrounds, fixed or scrolling images and "flying" elements – as we did with Sonic.

Background

Layouts & Topic

The topic of this month's theme is all about events and conferences. Each of the seven layouts included was created to provide everything you need to draft an informative and beautiful event website.

The Home page provides an overview of the essential information, like speakers, schedule and tickets, and at the same time previews the content of other pages. The Speakers page introduces conference speakers in an alternating panel layout and features a "Call for papers" section. On the Schedule page you will find the event's itinerary displayed in a nice timeline with basic information on the talk and the speaker. The Location page provides an introduction to the event's venue and hosting city through images, maps and references to public transport and accommodation. A list of sponsors and partners as well as an invitation to become a sponsor is presented on the Sponsors page. Under Tickets a pricing table, general information and contact details can be found. A little hidden page presents previous events with images that link to YouTube videos.

What's next?

YOOtheme Pro 1.4 is going to be released shortly and a lot of exciting stuff is coming with it. Some of the new features already found their way into this release. As mentioned above, you can now combine images with section backgrounds. In addition to that, there is a new background color option for headings, allowing us to place gradients on text elements for this style. These are just some of the new additions in YOOtheme Pro 1.4.

The new YOOtheme Pro release will also contain new translations. Thank you for your contribution on OnySky so far. A lot of languages already have been translated and some are almost done. If you see that yours still needs work, please consider helping us out. For more information, read our documentation .

Stay tuned for YOOtheme Pro 1.4 and as always, let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • Beautiful Sonic style
  • 7 page layouts
  • Great for event websites
  • Conference topic
  • 33 lovingly curated and free-to-use images
  • All these features are available in YOOtheme Pro

    Very nice design yooteam but i think that you must put focus on some core features. I'm still waiting for a lightbox for example. I think that most of the developers here will agree with me, at this stage of Pro we need tools not visual pleasant designs. With love

      Any core UIKIT2 features you are missing in UIKIT3 can be had temporarily by installing the latest widgetkit and using WK instead of UK in your classes and attributes. There are several topics about this in the support area.

        Widgetkit is a lot of overhead for an image gallery or lightbox that I used to be able to add with some simple code anywhere in my website. I create my article content dynamically using Form2Content CCK and loved that I had full control with uikit2 for anything I wanted to create. Now I am waiting form many months to be able to do the same with uikit3.

          I think you might have misunderstood. What I suggested was not to use widgetkit in the literal sense, but as a means of getting access to UIKIT2 without class/attribute conflicts with UIKIT3. You can do exactly what you are looking to do while you wait for UIKIT3 to catch up by coding using UIKIT2 syntax but with WK instead of UK... Like this:

          {% for image in post.get_field('listing_gallery') %}

          {% endfor %}

            That sounds interesting and helpful Josh. Don't think your code got accepted. So I install widgetkit and than use wk- syntax instead of uk-?

            Yep like this:

            class="wk-grid wk-grid-width-medium-1-4 wk-grid-small" data-wk-grid-margin=""

        Thank you Sascha,

        As a suggestion in regards to Parallax....could you add in additional options? I've tried to replicate something similar to http://www.firewatchgame.com/ using UIkit2, but whether I use translateY or velocity, it's not the same thing. I've tried having them as divs with background images, and I've tried having them as just regular img - It would be nice if we had an option for just the speed alone.

      You can download themes here:
      http://yootheme.com/themes/downloads

      If you already have Yootheme Pro installed, you don't need to re-download it - you can simply select it from within the Style portion of Page Builder.

    For those that are at a loss on how to present this functionality to there customers(mostly likely those who have custom content type requirements) need to take a step back and think about what a theme's purpose should be. They should simplify/reduce the process of displaying your content in an aesthetically pleasing and functional way. The theme itself does not replace the requirement for the agency/developer to create the user experience. Take for example this wordpress Page. With yootheme pro, I can have an infinite combination of pre-built styles that I can apply to this page by just going into the customizer and changing the style selection. I can then save this page's layout for future use without having to redesign it. That is invaluable to me(squeeze pages anyone?). The theme did not create the programmatic functionality on that page, but it did provide the tools necessary to enhance how that information is displayed. Great job Yootheme. I see where you are going and I think you should march on.

      Then you do not have any customers who want to maintain their own content. Because that is the real purpose of a CMS.

        They do. When logged in, they have the option to create new entries for any of the custom post types directly from the front-end and then edit listings right from the custom post type post. From what I can gather based on your comments, you might be looking for something along the lines of the Zoo template manager where customers can have a drag/drop interface for their custom content types. I agree this would be very useful and I would think it would be a logical next step for yootheme Pro.

        Have you really tried this Warp 8 framework out yet? We've been using Joomla since the beginning as an agency. We've even used Mambo before that. I was a bit sceptical at first, but have introduced Warp 8 to a couple of old-time customers these last 2 months and I've gotten nothing but awe.

        It's not usefull for bulk-content, but you can use Joomla/Zoo/K2/Whatever for that. All combines quite well.

        It's not that it's done yet, a better integration with Widgetkit 2 is very much needed (or a replacement of its functionalitty in the builder), forms elements, master-library-items, etc. So they've still got some milestones to reach, but still. This is what content management should be like.

        You can use Form2Content CCK to create joomla articles through the front-end without having any interference from warp. My clients love it since they don't even need to go in the back-edn.
        Only issue at the moment is that for the custom article styling (done through article templates) I don't have the full set of uikit3 features like lightbox/slideshow etc.... really hope this is developed asap.

          Are you saying that you can create a custom form and have it integrate into a YooTheme Pro template created with the builder? If so, how?
