Copper Hill Theme for YOOtheme Pro

This April we've got a tasty treat for you. Our new theme for Joomla and WordPress Copper Hill presents restaurants or any other business in an open, generous layout. It comes with new YOOtheme Pro 1.5 features, like an enhanced Description List element and a completely overhauled Offcanvas and Modal navigation. Fixed image sections and playful background illustrations mix up the light layout.

Copper Hill Style

As usual, this month's release comes with its own style. It is light and without much embellishment. However, the monospaced typewriter font, copper color and detailed divider icon add a rustic feel, which is why the style fits perfectly for the kind of countryside restaurant theme that we chose for this one. Handmade background illustrations amplify this impression and give the theme an individual touch. The vector images are provided with the theme, so that you can use them yourselves without any restrictions.

Style

Better Offcanvas and Leader

One of the new features that come with Copper Hill is the overhauled Offcanvas menu. Social icons and modules/widgets that are assigned to the header position will be displayed next to the menu toggle. The Offcanvas itself now works smoothly and offers a number of different layouts, for example a vertically centered navigation. You can also apply a primary style to the menu that uses a larger font size. In addition to that, the Offcanvas bar now adapts its width according to viewport size.

Offcanvas

We also reworked the Description List element, which now features an optional leader style. In Copper Hill it connects the term and description of each item with a dotted line. This is typical for restaurant menu style price lists.

Leader

Layouts & Topic

Copper Hill features six beautiful layouts dedicated to the gastronomy topic. The Home page briefly introduces visitors to the restaurant, its chef as well as the menu and provides contact details. The phone number for reservations, links to social media and reviews can be accessed directly inside the headerbar where the Offcanvas menu toggle leaves plenty of space. Our Story narrates the place's history with a mixture of text and expressive imagery inside grids. The Lunch page presents daily changing lunch menus and their pricing, while the Dinner page displays the full menu inside the freshly revised Description List element with an image for each course. Visitors can find more pictures of the restaurant on the Gallery page. It shows images with overlays inside a gallery grid. There is also an Instagram feed for more direct impressions. Finally, the Contact page provides details regarding the location – including a Google map –, opening hours as well as a phone number to book tables.

What's next?

This theme comes together with the latest YOOtheme Pro release 1.5. Tomorrow we will post a comprehensive article presenting the many new features, but want to mention some that can be found in Copper Hill. As mentioned before, the Description List element has received a revision and comes with a new meta field and additional settings. We've added a bunch of new header layouts for the Offcanvas and Modal modes and updated a lot of their options. Every element now has a custom CSS field, so that you can easily apply modifications without having to touch template files.

More about all this in our upcoming blog post on YOOtheme Pro 1.5. Until then have fun exploring our theme Copper Hill and feel free to give us your feedback in the comments below.

  • Beautiful Copper Hill style
  • 6 page layouts
  • Great for business websites
  • Restaurant topic
  • 47 lovingly curated and free-to-use images
  • All these features are available in YOOtheme Pro

I love also the new features of YooPro, but i didt´t see design. I only see pictures, squares and text. Sorry, that is in my opinion no good way.

The possibilities of Pro are not in the least exhausted. Functionality goes here over webdesign

Better and Better i can´t say this. Please come back to design again.
    Thank You

      Hey Hubert,

When we researched restaurant websites for this theme, we found that most cases were light and minimalist. That's why we went for that kind of style here.
Our next theme uses a much richer and more detailed style, so it's going to be completely different and probably more like what you are looking for.

      Best,
      Olivia.

As a few mentioned before, the new design isn't a new breakthrough, but its simple and clean and its up to us to make a stunning design.
Therefore the new custom css featrue is a nice step! What about a widget we're able to insert html, css and js.
I was thinking about sometihng like jsfiddle or codepen. This would enable us to add some stunning designed elements and a lot of freedom! Just think about it!
But you did a great job so far!

      Hi Maic!

The Page Builder actually features a HTML element. You can just type in your custom markup there, or write script or style tags for JS and CSS. Alternatively, you can also go to Settings > Custom Code and add those there.
      Hope that helps.

The font makes me feel that this restaurant is for writer or artist. I'm no good at choosing fonts, it's quite important things though.

I get more and more interested in yootheme pro templates, it allows us to make upmarket website but let us have our own creativity in the creation process.

Take time to test it in different project and you will see all the benefits you can get from it and, I must say that the support forum is full of helpful topic.

    Hi

My first thought upon entering the website was "where is the menu system", just a white space where you would assume the menu would be.

It took me a few moments to see the 'hamburger icon' and realise this was where the menu was Hidden! The first 2 or 3 seconds are crucial for retaining a first time visitor. They will think I can't see how to navigate around the website, I'll go somewhere else. The use of the 'hamburger icon' is much derided even for mobile devices, to use it as the primary way of getting a menu is ludicrous!

I'm talking about the 'out of the box' theme, you maybe able to add the menu system to the usual header area. I'm also talking as a web designer, a normal site visitor might take even longer or not even find the menu.

      Hi Roy!

We always try to show current trends with our templates and the hamburger menu is still quite popular. However, it is really easy to switch back to the traditional navigation bar. Just select a different header in the Layout section of the YOOtheme Pro administration. You don't need to integrate a different menu system or anything. It works great, right 'out of the box'. :)

By the way, you can find more information on all the layout settings in our documentation. http://yootheme.com/pro/docs/#/layout

This is just one option that is available for the header leayout. You can choose a more traditional layout with the navigation displayed immediately. In YOOtheme Pro, go to Layout > Header, click on the Layout thumbnail and pick something else, for example "Horizontal Left".

Does a dedicated Hamburger menu hurt SEO?
    • greenparrot

      Hi Triangle

No it won't hurt your SEO, as long as the search engine crawler can read the content of the menu under the 'hamburger icon'

If you used a Javascript approach to control the display the you would run into issues.

Yootheme use css to hide or display the menu items under a 'hamburger icon'.

      So you're okay

      Hey Triangle,

there is no impact on the SEO. The look is a matter of taste but you can display the word ‘menu’ next to the hamburger icon to make it more understandable. Just go to Layout > Header and check the ‘MENU TOGGLE‘ option.

    Thanks for the new template.

There is one feature that I miss Yootheme pro. That is the ability to create a new contact page in Joomla. Maybe a template override, which enables to add the contact fields like e-mail and subject. Yoo/you have created a lot of possibility on almost every other part of a Joomla site. But the ability to create a dynamic contact page is missing. Sure you can create a fancy contact site. But you can't send an e-mail directly from it.

Is this something you can create? Maybe an e-mail field module which can be places on any site? With options for making it in many different layouts? Maybe it can be possible with the new custom fields in Joomla 3.7?

    Thanks

Hi! Thanks for the tips. I use RSForm Pro on some of my sites. Think I must try this on one of my sites.

But I don't want to use it on small sites. I usually want to use a little as possible extra 3rd party components. More to maintain.

How can the customer change the Daily Lunch every Week? On which way, when he`s logged in?
    • florian

      | Profile |
They can just go to the article in Joomla or page in Wordpress, hit the "Page builder" Button and then they are in the edit mode.

Just show your customer how they can hover the lunch list right on the website and then click the edit icon that appears (check out the screenshots in the "edit elements" section on http://yootheme.com/pro/docs/#/builder )

When they click that icon, they now see all current menu items in the panel on the left side of the screen. They can add, remove and edit items.

Explaining this to your customer should only take 5-10 minutes and they will be able to do it themselves every weak. If you want, you can save the original layout in the layout library so that you can always restore it in case something goes wrong. Also, the page is versioned in your CMS, so you can always jump back to an older version.

OMG, not really? The Customer have to use the PageBuilder?
They don´t want it, they want a simple Editor, looks like Word.
And I think, your customer and me don`t want it, too.
For what I need a CMS? This is the most important thing of it.
When I want a static page, I don`t need Joomla. I don`t understand for what or who the Pagebuilder make sense?

For many people, the PageBuilder is a "simple editor like Word", with many advantages like being able to change the style without needing to re-build the whole page.

However, If you do not want your customer to change content but not be able to change the layout of your page... that is on our ToDo list. ;)
