YOOtheme Pro 1.17 – Footer Layouts, Local Style Library and More
Today, we are happy to announce YOOtheme Pro 1.17. It includes new footer layouts in the layout library, local style library, a cookie banner, new box decoration options for images and much more. We also followed up on your feedback and added some nice UI improvements to YOOtheme Pro. Now let's take a look in detail. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news on YOOtheme Pro. Grab some coffee and enjoy the video!
Footer Layouts
Finally, all footer layouts from our 25 YOOtheme Pro demo websites are available through the layout library. Since footers are not full page layouts, they require a different visual representation in the layout library. That's why they are not mixed together with other page layouts and will only show up if you select Footer as layout type.
Local Style Library
Style customizations can now be stored locally like you already know from the Layout library. If you have modified the current style, a Save Customization button will appear in the upper right when you open the Style library. Your saved customizations will be listed in the My Customizations tab. Clicking on it will load your customizations and switch back to the used style which was active when you saved the customizations. Of course, you can change the style anytime just like before.
Cookie Banner
Nowadays, every website needs a cookie banner. That's why we've added a simple cookie banner that will notify your visitors that your website uses cookies. You can add a link to your privacy policy and ask your visitors for consent. The banner will automatically adapt to the overall look of your website. You can choose between two banner types: an attached bar and a notification. Both can be styled in the style customizer like any other component.
Improved Replace Existing Layouts
We got your feedback and improved adding a layout from the library. In addition to replacing the current layout or inserting a new layout at the bottom, you can now also insert it at the top. The layout library will also remember your choice, so if you prefer one method or the other, you don't have to switch the option every time.
Improved Managing Menus and Modules (Joomla)
As you know, you can manage your modules and menu items without leaving YOOtheme Pro. However, up until now you couldn't delete a module or a menu item. We now added this functionality, so you won't have to leave YOOtheme Pro.
Extended Max Width Options
We extended the max width option for sections and rows. If a max width is set, you will find a new option called Expand One Side. It allows you to expand the width of one side to the left or right and keep the other side within the constraints of the max width. This feature gives you new possibilities to create even more diverse page layouts. In addition, all media elements, such as the Image, Video and Slideshow among others, received an option to remove the padding of the extended side.
Box Decoration
We added a new option called Box Decoration to style media content like images and videos. You can choose between the 3 different styles: default, primary and secondary, a mask and a floating shadow. We are happy to tell you that we put a lot of extra effort and created 3 new box decorations for each of our existing 24 theme styles. Note that the new floating shadow replaces the old box shadow bottom option which got removed, while the mask option is only available for specific theme styles. To modify the style of new box decorations, go to the style customizer and open the Theme panel.
Inline SVG
Now all elements that have an image field offer an option to make SVG images stylable with CSS, so they will adapt to the chosen style.
Slideshow Thumbnav
We have added an option to prevent thumbnav images from wrapping into the next row. The images will shrink so that they will fit into a single row.
What's Next
This YOOtheme Pro release contains a bunch of smaller, handy features to improve your workflow and let you create more diverse page layouts. Our theme release which we had planned for mid November makes use of these new features. That's why we had to push the release back. It's now the December theme and will be available in the next few days. This release change gives us a head start with the themes next year, and we hope to get into a more regular release cycle with a new theme at the beginning of each month.
YOOtheme Pro itself is still in heavy development. Some of you may have noticed in the changelog that we refactored all element templates in the 1.16.5 release. It took us two weeks, and it is part of our process of altering the page builder architecture step by step. Next week will bring another YOOtheme Pro release with a refactored element file structure. The template and JSON files will both be included in the element folder, and the JSON file won't be compiled into JavaScript. It will allow you to easily copy and customize elements. All these efforts will unlock the possibility to implement some long-awaited features. Content providers are on top of that list. They won't be ready for Xmas, but the end of January is a realistic prognosis 🤞🏻. We updated the YOOtheme Pro roadmap a bit, so you can get a glimpse of which features are in the making.
Now go ahead and take YOOtheme Pro 1.17 for a spin. And as always, let us know what you think in the comments below.

I don't understand how Content Provider is now another 2 months away - this is getting extremely frustrating.
We had this functionality available on a product 2 years ago and we still do not have it on Yootheme Pro 2 years later.
I think I'm just going to give up on Content Provider / Locked Buidler Mode and Mega Menu because it's easier to give up than just to be continually waiting.
Keep up the good work with what you are producing as it is really great, but some serious thought needs to go into your communication to your customers - this side of things really isn't good enough - maybe at least tell us what is going to be in each release, before you release it? It can't be difficult to put up a few screenshots etc - please consider this for future releases.
But to end on a good note, thanks again for the new features in 1.17 :)

Having content providers on the roadmap doesn't mean they will be ready next month. We did not announce them nor give any release date, so no expectations are raised. End of January is the first announced estimation for the content provider. (Note: And it's just an estimation! Not a release date.) Nobody wants this to be done faster than ourselves. Please understand that good things take a while.

However, I feel disappointed that you again delay content provider and locked builder mode.
It's what every one seems to want and keeps asking, just look at the numerous reactions to your last blog post and the lots of support request regarding this.
It's what is needed to be able to let our customers manage their own sites.
Somehow there are new elements that seem to overtake your priorities at every release.
So happy and sad at the same time and waiting again.

Again to be clear, I greatly appreciate your work and efforts and of course it is awesome that you bring out features and give such attention to details.
I think the mixed feelings came from the fact that, if you look at past releases, every time you put a feature in the "in development" part, the next release contained that feature.
I can imagine that a lot of architectural improvements/changes are needed for these "bigger" features, but as you state, you explain this in this blogpost for the first time and give a first time estimation (which is great, btw).
How should we know that? Maybe you could tweet here and there about these kind of "big" developments?
Again, thanks for your clarifications and announcements and of course for the new features.
The efforts put in every release is enormous and are really appreciated. :)

I also think that there are many things to do in the background in order to provide new great functions like the Content Provider. Thus, thank you for all the work in the background ;-)
Just one thing to think about: Is the Cookie Banner really made for the future? With upcoming ePrivacy regulation in 2019 we won't need a simple notification bar but a cookie handler that hooks into Joomla! Core functions to prevent Joomla! from setting a system cookie if no consent was given yet.
Have you also thought about this scenario and a possibility to rebuild the Cookie Banner later on from ground up? This will probably be necessary if you plan to continue this new feature. Or at least some kind of interaction with some Joomla! Core plugin that will be constructed to handle all this. I'm not in deep enough inside the Joomla! Community to know much about Core plans for this.

But I still don't get who is going to need that if it is not compliant with current GDPR regulations. Cookies must be blocked and not saved to anybody's browser before they give their consent - which the Yootheme Cookie Banner is not doing. So why do you release it to the public that might even get a fine for using it as it is... and there is no simple use cases - there are just laws we have to follow...

1- If you add something from LIBRARY choosing insert at the bottom, for example it stays at the bottom in live view although you change its position. You need to close/open the customizer.
2- I am using duplicate styles in multi-language Joomla. After this update changing style to another will not be reflected.

In this case the cookie banner does not go far enough, It actually needs a checkbox marked 'I consent' with a submit/close button that stores the IP address record with consent to the database.

Why not use this time to really meet the high expectations, for my part I can not use YoothemePro with customers who want to get their hands on the back office, because they have access to all settings and page layout changes of the template !! (I let you imagine the rest) ... It is absolutely necessary to be able to give rights to the users ...
How long will he wait? this being a priority in your roadmap for a very long time…
sascha
The roadmap contains features we are working on. There is no time frame and we don't know when they will be ready. Some of them can take months. This means, having them in the "in development" section of the roadmap, doesn't mean the feature is coming in the next release.
We are sorry, that we did not meet your expectations, but developing good software takes really a lot of time...

One suggestion : Save Customization in the cloud, to access from one site to another to the list of customization. Or a way to export/import a customization could be great.

A suggestion : it could be nice to have a "random order" option on any multi-items widgets (slider, slideshow of course, but also (why not ?) gallery or grid...) ?
Probably not that much difficult to create ?
Thanx by advance anyway !

Only have two issues: please post a between standing once a month so that we can see what´s currently on your list. The second thing is the support: I really try to figure out all things for me without asking the support.
But if I open a support ticket, I expect to get an answer within a reasonable amount of time, usually two days.
All in all I give you a thumbs up and will stay for another year with Yootheme.
